What better way could there be to discover this area’s rich history of salt production than a visit to the Camillone salt pans?

This is the last remaining salt pan where the salt is still collected with traditional manual methods, using wooden tools and ancient techniques.

The salt produced here has had Slow Food status since 2004. To plan a visit, contact the Salt Museum, MUSA, which organises tours between June and September. The salt pans are only open during this period, giving you the opportunity to hear all about this ancient tradition from the salt workers themselves.

During the tour, you will also have the chance to see some fascinating plants and animals, including glasswarts, black-winged stilts, and pink flamingos, which walk nimbly over the water in search of the prawns that they love to eat.

The sight of the sun setting over the vast expanse of salt, the sky burning bright red, is unforgettable. Don’t miss out on this unique experience, make a visit to the Camillone salt pans part of your holiday!
