San Marino
San Marino
The world’s smallest and oldest Republic, recognised by UNESCO, is only 10 km from Rimini, atop Monte Titano. It covers an area of just 60,000 m2, making it the fourth smallest state in Europe.
San Marino is a great place for walking and hiking, combining breathtaking scenery, history, and shopping in the springtime, autumn, and on cooler summer days.
The city of San Marino has a delightful old town with a wealth of historic buildings reflecting San Marino’s long history, as well as museums and galleries packed with magnificent works.
In addition to the art institutions, there are two places which are symbolic of the country which are the cliffs of Baldasserona - where, according to the story, Saint Marinus stopped when he reached Monte Titano - and the spring on Monte Cerreto, where Saint Marinus baptised the first Christians in his community.
There are so many things to see and do in San Marino, we don't have room to list all of the hidden gems to discover high up on Monte Titano but if you are looking for a day trip which unites history, great food, and good shopping then San Marino is a not-to-be-missed destination.
