The villages of Poggio Berni and Torriana stand on an upland area overlooking the Riviera and the plains around Rimini.
They are two perfectly preserved ancient villages bursting with history and culture, including the Sapignoi mill museum, the Guidi di Bagno fortress and a whole host of palaces, villas, farmhouses, and mills.
The first thing that you notice on arrival in Poggio Berni is the Palazzo Marcosanti, a fortified farmhouse which belonged to the Malatesta dynasty, standing atop one of the three hills.
On top of a rocky outcrop you can find the old “Scorticata” with the ruins of the Rocca Malatestiana fortress and the Tower.
Food lovers will be interested to learn that Torriana is considered to be Italy’s “honey village” because of its long tradition of producing this sweet, exquisite nectar.
As you can see, Poggio Torrione is a fantastic destination for lovers of history and culture, as well as exploring the gorgeous Italian countryside, all of the things which make rural Italy so special.
