Emilia Romagna: the land of champions
Cycling is a religion in this part of Italy and Cervia is a great starting point for for discovering a range of off-road cycling routes. Every year, professionals and amateurs alike come to ride their bikes over our hills, enjoying the breathtaking views of the coastline.
There are so many routes to choose from with something to suit all ability levels: from a whole day in the saddle to just a couple of hours, from rides with the kids to proper training sessions.
Discover an ever-changing landscape, from the countryside around Ferrara to the relaxing Riviera, from the gently rolling hills around Rimini to the steep slopes of the Apennines.
Here are our tips for the best rides: the Salt Route, a 249 km itinerary from Cervia to Venice via the Po Delta Natural Park; San Bartolo park, a heavenly section of undulating coastline to savour just a few kilometres south of Rimini; and the road from Cervia to Sant’Apollinare, a route which goes from the coastline to the hills on the border with Tuscany, taking in rocky valleys and artistic treasures.
Cycling is a huge passion in this region, embodied by the great ‘Pirata’ Marco Pantani, who came from Cesena and whose thrilling lone climbs fired the imaginations of cycling fans.
Spring is coming, it’s time to dust off your bike and come to the Adriatic Riviera for a cycling holiday that will not disappoint!
