Guided tour of the Malatestiana library in Cesena
Unique in its kind, the Malatesta Library in Cesena was founded in the mid-5th century thanks to Domenico Malatesta and the Franciscan friars. It is also the only example in the world of a humanistic library perfectly preserved in its building, furnishings and library equipment.
In 2005, UNESCO recognized the great cultural and historical importance of the ancient Malatestiana and included it in the Memory of the World Register. Between the old and new libraries, the Malatestiana holds nearly 380,000 volumes, including thousands of valuable manuscript works, newspapers, magazines, photographs, letters, and numismatic items
