The pines
They are the towns' green lung, a place to be explored slowly, savouring the shade, the fragrant trees, and the plants and animals that call the forest their home. Amongst the pines there is a nature trail with boards showing different routes available and an outdoor classroom. If you want to cool off during the hottest part of the day, or to go for a run in the shade, you can find everything you need here: numerous outdoor gyms, refreshment points, picnic areas, and two running trails. And there is also the Casa delle Farfalle house of butterflies and the exciting CerviAvventura amusement park with its high-wire courses among the treetops.
Until the start of the 20th century, Cervia’s pine forest was even vaster. Sadly, thanks to two world wars and some aggressive agricultural policies, a large part of it has been lost. Fortunately, this extraordinary place has been preserved through reforestation and it is now a protected reserve.
The pine forest in Pinarella and Tagliata runs right between the beach and the towns. A really beautiful natural oasis which is home to a rich population of plants and animals.
The forest features domestic pines, maritime pines, and Russian olives and it is also the site of an exciting natural event: the Kentish plover’s nesting season. In 1977, it was recognised as a state nature reserve to protect its flora.
Just like Cervia pine forest, this is a place of relaxation and well-being in the shade of the mighty pine trees, a place where you can take a walk or enjoy a number of other activities, such as running, cycling, or using the outdoor gyms.
