Cervia Rediscovered
The exhibition at MUSA - Salt Museum features photographs and texts on the archaeological excavation campaigns during the 2024 campaign.
The indigine and archaeological excavation project in the territory of the municipality of Cervia began in 2019. The research is conducted by DISCI - Department of History Cultures and Civilizations of the University of Bologna thanks to an agreement signed with the Municipality of Cervia, the cultural group Civiltà Salinara and the Superintendence. From the outset, attention was focused on studying a set of neighboring archaeological sites, consisting of the site of Cervia Vecchia, that is, the site of the medieval town of Cervia, abandoned during the 17th-18th centuries in favor of the current settlement, and the site of Prato della Rosa, one of the localities in which Ficocle, an episcopate attested as early as the Late Antiquity, was traditionally located.
The exhibition focuses in particular on the discoveries made in the last campaign of 2024 in the Prato della Rosa area: the excavation area was expanded and thus new discoveries were made, such as more burials and a baptismal font.
