Teatro Comunale Walter Chiari

Located along the perimeter of the quadrilateral, it is an example of minor architecture of the 19th century, a century of great love for the opera theatre.
The definitive project was drawn up by the Perugian architect Tommaso Stamigni. The works, which began in 1860, were directed by the master builders Zanuccoli and Zacchi, the sculptor Ulisse Bonelli created the architectural decorations, while the painters Giovanni Canepa and Andrea Bellini took care of the pictorial decorations of the theatre. The jewel of the theatre, the work of Canepa himself, is the curtain from 1862 depicting Apollo's boat arriving at the port of Cervia accompanied by nine Muses to pay homage to the city, while a burchiella loaded with salt welcomes the procession. The Curtain of the Cervia Theater seems to be the only one in Emilia Romagna with a maritime subject. Being in a poor state of conservation and the humidity having caused tears and loss of colour, it was subjected to a delicate restoration by Enzo Petrucci of Urbino.
