Monte Busca Volcano

Vulcano del Monte Busca a Tredozio Vulcano del Monte Busca a Tredozio
Where can you find the smallest “volcano” in the world? Monte Busca is a hill in the Apennines above Forlì, near the village of Tredozio close to the border with Tuscany.
Known as the world’s smallest volcano, it is actually a different type of natural phenomenon: a permanently burning methane vent which has existed since at least the 16th century.

The gas leaks naturally from the earth and ignites spontaneously on contact with the air, though occasionally the local residents have a hand in the matter. Visitors will find a small heap of stones with flames emanating from the top.

The height of the flames varies from day-to-day and also depends on the strength of the wind.
