Biodiversity in Emilia Romagna

Our region is very varied in terms of its climate, morphology and altitude; this complex geography provides us with extraordinary biodiversity: 2,700 species of plants, more than 350 vertebrate animals and a huge variety of habitats.
Here are just some of the locations where you can admire the wonders of nature.

We start in the Bosco della Mescola Nature Reserve, a splendid protected forest area covering 1,000 hectares where you can explore on foot or by bike, with the chance to see deer and many types of birds, including great tits, blackcaps, nightingales, great spotted woodpeckers and green woodpeckers.

Next stop is the Comacchio wetlands, the centre of the Po Delta Regional Park, an enchanted realm of land and water which is home to hundreds of species of birds, including a colony of pink flamingoes which has lived here permanently on the salt pans for many years.

We now move on towards Ravenna and Punte Alberete, a striking oasis which is home to protected and rare species such as kingfishers, pygmy cormorants, red-crested pochard ducks and the glossy ibis.

Our last stop is the Adriatic Sea where we can find dolphins and turtles, animals which are as beautiful as they are fragile.

We could list even more destinations but why don’t you come to the Adriatic Riviera to see them for yourself?
