Our part of Romagna is home to a number of nature reserves bursting with biodiversity. The flora and fauna vary greatly from the Po Delta Regional Park on the coast to the ‘Foreste Casentinesi Monte Falterona e Campigna’ National Park in the hills.

Forests, ancient pine trees, freshwater and saltwater marshlands are the hallmarks of this land. You can see some unique places such as the ‘flooded forest’ at Punte Alberete, where rare species grow. This natural haven is a beautiful succession of water-loving trees, flooded plains and open spaces. The bodies of water are surrounded by dense reed beds and the trails offer captivating glimpses of the marshland which really take the breath away for their beauty.

Another area which is bursting with biodiversity is Boscoforte, a peninsula which thrusts out from the northern bank of the Reno river into the Comacchio lagoon, and which has been closed off to the public for around 10 years.

Wild Camargue horses still live here and seeing them running freely is a thrilling experience!

The Boscoforte peninsula is home to a considerable variety of environments thanks to the simultaneous presence of both fresh and saltwater: expanses of glasswort, reed beds, sandbars, sand dunes, and canals. In addition, its fortunate position and layout make Boscoforte particularly attractive to a rich variety of birdlife and it is a favoured location on migration routes and for the nesting season. If you like birdwatching, do not miss out on this gem. But please note that you can only enter with a guide!

During the year, a number of tours and botanical courses are organised, allowing you to identify and recognise the many different species of animals and plants present. Take a look at the Museo NatuRa website to find out more information about the tours.
