Classis Ravenna, the new Classe Museum is the museum of the city of Ravenna and its territory. Classe is at the origin of the historical importance of Ravenna. The museum intends to tell the events that characterize the history of Ravenna and its territory through some particularly significant historical junctions.Created to house the remains of Apollinaris, patron saint of the city, the basilica was built on a previous cemetery area in use between the end of the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd century AD. where the protobishop himself appears to have been buried. the church still preserves the beauty of the original structure and is admired for the splendid polychrome mosaics of its apse basin and the ancient marble sarcophagi of the archbishops located along the side naves.
